As soon as I started renting space out at Hunters Point Shipyard, three and a half years ago, I got a new sense of dedication to my lifelong pursuit creating artwork. Despite working a full time job everyday, I started going to my studio two to three nights a week and every weekend. It changed everything.
Working at the shipyard, the “boondocks”, in an old run down Navy classroom, and having shipyard artist community surrounding me, I felt more connected to that artistic part of me than I had in many years. After working here for several months steady in my studio, I knew I would have to give up my full time job and use my time for painting and photography at the shipyard. The visual elements at the old crumbling Navy shipyard has had a major effect on my recent work during the last three and half years.
By quitting my job I finally have time for creating digital images and digital collages along with my long-standing pursuit of painting and collage. And so I continue exploring artwork full time at the shipyard.
